WE ARE FAMILY T-SHIRT
This year the theme for the Relay was based on the different types of cancer. Each team drew for a type of cancer and color of the ribbon that represents that type of cancer. Our team got prostrate cancer which is represented by a light blue ribbon. We were supposed to use use that color in our campsite decorations and t-shirt. I think the reason for this theme was to have each team provide information on the cancer they had chosen.
Our t-shirt was designed to show why we wear blue. To have it to have more meaning for us it was decided to make it personal for our team members as well as others who have been affected by prostrate cancer. The dove is a symbol of hope and was placed on the front for the shirt to let men know there is hope. Professionals who do prostrate cancer research have developed new ways to treat have made significant strides in the number of people diagnosed with prostrate cancer who are now in remission as well as extending the life span and quality of life of those who are still being actively treated for their cancer.
Prostrate cancer for our team is very personal for we had one member who was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He fought a gallant battle, unfortunately the cancer won. If he was in Paragould the day of the annual auction or relay you would see him on our serving line helping to get the orders ready. He donated many items for our auctions and garage sales as well as a lot of cash. This shirt means a lot to me because of him and I will wear this shirt in his memory. There is not a relay or an auction that we have that I don't look at our serving line and think of Alton. I do miss him and all the joy the joy he brought into my life as well as all who knew him.

TEAM BANNER
Our team banner, currently under design, also incorporates the blue color and prostrate cancer theme. This design is what we want, but we may have to make some changes. The information will remain the same but we may have to make other changes.
The banner graphically illustrates the number of men that will be diagnosed with prostrate cancer. You can say "1 in 7" but when you show 5 white bodies and 1 blue body it seems to drive the point home. The bottom line on the banner was added to stress the fact that it is very important to catch prostrate cancer--or any other cancer--early. Men should have a periodic physical. Men should also learn the symptoms of prostrate cancer and if they exhibit any of the symptoms, see a medical practitioner for an exam.
To help further inform people who attend the Greene County Relay For Life Walk, our team will provide literature on prostrate cancer for them to take with them.
The Relay for Life Walk will be held Friday June 9 from 6 PM to midnight
at Harmon Park, 309 W. Northend Avenue, Paragould, Arkansas. I hope to see you there. More information is available on the
internet. Search for Relay For Life
